Tea Time and a Tiny Snowman

Inspired By challenge inspired me to use their theme of tea time.   And Stamping Sensations wants a hand coloured image.

The image is stamped and watercoloured, fussy cut around its edges, bordered with some gold cs, and popped up on fun foam.

Addicted to CAS has the code word "Brrr!".  I used up some a bunch of little bits from my desk and ended up with this card.  I think that little snowman looks very cold under that night sky!  And the Four Seasons Challenge wants "winter".

I had a leftover bit of a galaxy background (created by smooshing with various oxide inks, spritzing with Perfect Pearls spray, and then covering the colours in a rough random fashion with Black Soot ink). I splattered it with watered down gesso. I added a tiny snowman and trees die, and, picking up the colours showing through the black ink, I created very thin borders of blue and pink cs.

Two Christmas, One Birthday

I'm definitely in the mood for making cards these days.  Must be something about the change in the weather!

First up for Can You Handle the Pressure? (use an embossing folder and have a sentiment on the card), Christmas Cards All Year Round (snowmen), and for Christmas Kickstart ("embossing folder fun"):

I used a corner embossing folder on my focal panel.  I stamped and heat embossed my snowman image in dark blue and trimmed it close to its border so that it would fit in the space left by the embossing folder.

For Shopping our Stash (leaves), I pulled out a stamp I hadn't yet inked up so I'm adding it to the NBUS challenge as well.

I put the stamp in my MISTI and inked it up with Tombow markers, spritzing lightly and   stamping on mixed media cs.  I trimmed the panel with a pierced dot rectangle and went around the edges with Antique Linen Distress ink to give it a vintage look.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment on brown cs, and used a red shimmer card base.  I finished it off with Glossy Accents on the berries.

I've got a third card today as I needed to make a birthday card for a friend that I go out for tea with a lot.  I'm entering it at Festive Friday where they are celebrating National Dessert Day - nothing like cupcakes and iced cookies for dessert!  I've got pink, cream, desserts, spoon, and stamping from their inspiration list.

I kept the card very CAS card as the image is quite busy. Stamped, coloured with coloured pencils, bordered with dark pink, and popped up on fun foam.

Tea with Books and Sunflowers with Horses

Sweet Stampin' wants to see "Beverages" and Shopping our Stash wants to see a "Just Because" card.   A friend gave me this stamp set as she thought it was perfect for me as a retired librarian - it's the first time I've used it so entering it in NBUS as well.

I coloured it in blue as I'm going to send it to my youngest sister who loves blue, tea, and reading as much as I do, and loves to get cards from me.

The image is coloured with coloured pencils and popped up on fun foam. The background is an embossing folder that went well with the scrolls on the tea cup.

I've also got a card for Double D "Sunflowers". 

I stamped the image and coloured it with coloured pencils, bordered with black cs, mounted on a kraft card base, and added a white heat embossed sentiment on a scrap of black cs.

A Threefer of Flowers, Tea, and Doves

Three cards from me today, getting some challenges done.

First up, flowers for The Sisterhood of Crafters:

I finally used this Tim Holtz large flower stamp - I've had it for a few years! For an A2 card, you can really only use part of the stamp.

I stamped it and coloured it with Distress markers and a water brush. A simple sentiment and a black border and it was done!

Next a card for a special woman in my life (one of my best friends who shares my love of going out for tea and treats) - for Shopping our Stash challenge:

Stamped, watercoloured, bordered with a co-ordinating colour - that's all there is to it. 

And last, (of course, I have to have one Christmas card in here as I really need to build up my stash for my sale), for Addicted to CAS "Monochrome":

I stamped and heat embossed (with a glittery blue embossing powder) the image and sentiment, trimmed with a stitched rectangle die, and added it to a dark shimmer card base that provides a nice frame for the image.

Summer Tea Time

The Four Seasons Challenge is celebrating summer right now and there is nothing I like better in the summer than having tea in the garden with friends.  And the Paper Players challenge is asking for Food and / or Beverages.  So I made this card that has both food and beverage, and is perfect for summer tea in the garden. 

I've had this stamp for years and have no idea who made it.  I coloured it with coloured pencils, trimmed it with a stitched rectangle die, and bordered with some dp that's been in my stash for as long as I've had the old stamp - good to revisit some old supplies!

I would love to be sitting down to tea and cake right now!  I can do the tea but I don't have any cake on hand!

Pony Pulling Puppy (and Reading Books)

Sneaking in under the wire for a couple of challenges.

First up for Christmas Cards All Year Round - something starting with O or P.  My card is "P" for a pony pulling a puppy.  It's also for Cardz 4 Guyz "Things with Tails".

Stamped on watercolour paper, watercoloured, trimmed with wonky stitched die, bordered in copper, and a bit of glue and glitter along the snowline.

And for Day of the Month Challenge "Book Lovers' Day":

This is a very quick CAS card - an old PTI image stamped in navy, the sentiment in beige, and then the panel bordered in matching cs colours.

Tea Rose

I have to start by pointing out that the title of this post "Tea Rose" is extremely accurate as not only am I using the image of a rose but I'm also using tea on my card.

I've seen challenges where they ask you to use coffee but I am definitely not a coffee drinker - in fact, I can't even stand the smell of it.  So I decided to play with tea instead!

I started by putting the rose stamp in my MISTI, colouring it up section by section with my Tombow markers, lightly spritzing each time. When dry, I used some coloured pencils to add a bit of extra definition of the petals and leaves.

I brewed a little bit of very strong orange pekoe tea and used it for the background. I "inked up" a small script stamp by carefully dipping the stamp in the tea, shaking off some of the excess liquid, and then stamping around the rose. If you don't shake off the excess liquid, you just get a blob like along the top or a bunch of blobs like the middle bottom section - I'm fine with it as I like the variety.

I stamped the vertical sentiment on a scrap of the same watercolour paper, die cut it with a banner die, and sponged a bit of tea over it.

The panel is popped up on fun foam for some dimension.

One of My Favourite Things

One of my all-time favourite things that makes for a perfect day is afternoon tea in the garden.

I pulled out an old unmounted stamp I have with a straw hat, a teapot, flowers, and a cake.

I haven't used the stamp for years and can't remember what brand it is - if anyone knows, please let me know.

I stamped it in grey as I wanted a soft look, then watercoloured, trimmed with a stitched rectangle, and popped it up on fun foam on a straw coloured card base to matche the hat.

Nice to think of summer and having tea in the garden!

Rusty Teapot

Today's Ways to Use It challenge over at SCS is "Two for Tea" (to feature tea on your card), and with tea being my favourite beverage, I had to take part!

A while back I was at Loll Thompson's house and we played with her rusting powder. I used it to edge a couple of panels, and I still had one sitting in my UFO box. It was the perfect size for the stamp I used (teapot and sentiment all in one stamp), and also the rusty colour is the colour of tea (regular black tea at least!).

I stamped in Distress Oxide Vintage Photo (the new oxide inks stamp nice and sharp compared to the regular Distress inks), heat embossed, and then coloured in the teapot with a bit of the ink.  I sponged a bit of regular Antique Linen around the stamping so it wasn't so stark white - I wanted quite a vintage look.

I mounted it on fun foam on a piece of text dp.

In case you're interested in how the rusting powder is used: you paint gesso around the edges of the cs, then sprinkle on the rusting powder, let the gesso dry, then spritz with vinegar, let it dry, and repeat the vinegar a couple more times. It streaks and runs just the way something does when it goes rusty. Quite a neat effect but it has a really horrid smell during the process!

Marbled Tea for CAS Mix Up

This is my reminder card for the September CAS Mix Up challenge "Marbling".  Our challenge is to use stamping, marbling, and your choice of at least one other element from our list of choices on the right of the CAS Mix Up page.

For my card, I chose die cutting (the teapot), Glossy Accents (on the teapot), and heat embossing (on the sentiment).

I used the shaving foam method of marbling and .  See here for a tutorial on it.  I stuck to just two colours of Distress reinkers - Faded Jeans and Seedless Preserves.  After swirling the inks on the foam, I just started playing with different scraps of cs.  First I pulled a piece of regular fairly heavy cs through it.  This got me a very dark marbled piece.  I then tried a few others.  I did not like the results on glossy or coated cs so tossed them.  But my final pull was on a piece of quite lightweight watercolour paper and I really liked it so used it for the background for this card. 

I showed the results to Loll Thompson and she suggested using the very dark first pull for die cuts and that's what gave me the idea for this card.  Thanks, Loll!

I die cut the dark piece with the PTI teapot die, and cut a second teapot so I could layer it for more substance.  I then coated it with Glossy Accents to make it look more like a china teapot.  I trimmed the background piece so that I could place the teapot on it as if there was a swirl of lovely blackcurrant tea scent coming out of the spout.  With a paintbrush, I added a bit of watered down reinker around the base of the teapot to ground it.

I added a stamped (in dark blue) and heat embossed sentiment, bordered with navy cs, and popped it up on fun foam for dimension.
