A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

About me
Since 2009, when I retired from a wonderful career as a librarian in the public library system, I've enjoyed a whole new life, doing completely different things to what I did in my working life.
I have a whole range of hobbies, the main ones being cardmaking and gardening, but I also spend time knitting, crocheting, cooking, and reading.
I have a sweet English cocker spaniel named Will (the black dog in my photo - sadly, his sister Shea passed away recently). He's full of energy and so my days include long walks with him.
Since retiring, I've been teaching beginners' dog obedience classes, volunteering at the University of British Columbia's Botanical Garden, and volunteering with Southlands Therapeutic Riding Society, helping with horse riding for children and adults with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. I also take riding lessons myself and have totally rekindled a childhood love of horses.
I live in an older neighbourhood of Vancouver - a gorgeous city in British Columbia, Canada. There are woods and beaches really nearby, and the climate is mild - ideal for lots of outdoor time and gardening!

it sounds like you are making the most of your retirement. helping others always makes me enjoy my other hobbies even more. I really enjoy your work. thanks so much for sharing it with us
ReplyDeleteWhat anamazing retirement you have created for yourself! Canine and equine therapy were to be my pursuits upon retiring from a career in child protective services; however, health issues sidelined my pursuit of either. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and story with us!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI found your cardwork today and I really love the work you do. So beautiful. I also love something else. I hope his doesn't sound silly but I really love your signature Susan in blue with the little flowers next to it. It is just so simple and stylish and I love it. I would love to have a simple signature like that with my name, Cynthia. I really like the font or style of the lettering. Can you tell me where you got that? I like the look and simpleness of the lettering.
Thank you for listening.
