A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Garden Flowers, Christmas Animals

A twofer today.  For the Sisterhood of Crafters "In the Garden", I used a flower stamp and a dp that talks about gardens, seeds, and growing.

The image is watercoloured, with a bit of splattering around it. The sentiment is heat embossed.  I used a scrap of the dp and a strip of black cs down the side.

The second card is for 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Pets" and My Time to Craft Christmas "Christmas Animals":

I used coloured pencils for the image, trimmed it with an oval die, put it on fun foam on a nice warm red patterned paper background.

In My Thoughts

I've got a card today that uses my Cosmic Shimmer Botanical Stains for watercolouring the flowers.  I bought them because I loved their old-fashioned vintage kind of colours but I need more practice with them to get the paler faded look I wanted.

I added a bit of splatter and a sentiment, bordered with black, and popped it up on fun foam.

It's for:

The Flower Challenge "Use a Sentiment"

Supplies:
Stamps - Altenew Charmed, unknown sentiment
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watercolour paper, PTI Vintage Cream cs, black cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Cosmic Shimmer Botanical Stains, fun foam

Floral Birthday

A birthday card for a dear friend:

I coloured the image with my new Cosmic Shimmer Botanical Stains - love the colours of them!  I added a bit of splatter and a few sequins, and, for a change from my usual cream or white, I used a dark coloured card base.

It's for The Paper Players Tic Tac Toe challenge.   I chose the left hand column - feminine, birthday, florals.

Supplies:
Stamps - Altenew Charmed flowers, unknown sentiment
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - watercolour and dark green cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Cosmic Shimmer Botanical Stains, sequins, Lil Inker stitched rectangle die, fun foam

Four Calling Birds

Hello All,

It's time to remind you that you only have until August 24th to get a card in for the CAS Christmas Card Challenge, where this month's theme is The Twelve Days of Christmas.

For my original card, I used "a partridge in a pear tree".  For this one, I've jumped a few verses ahead and I've got "4 calling birds".

I stamped and heat embossed the image in gold, typed my sentiment on the computer and printed it on lightweight cardstock, popped my image up on it with fun foam, bordered with gold cs, and added it to a matching cream card base.

While I had the stamp out and computer sentiment in front of me, I made a second version.

For this one, I coloured the stamp with Tombow markers while it was in my MISTI, colouring and stamping until I was happy with the results, popped it up on fun foam on the sentiment panel, bordered with green cs, and popped that up on a white card base.

Head over to CAS Christmas for more inspiration from the Design Team and come and join us with your clean and simple card using something inspired by The Twelve Days of Christmas!

Altenew Peonies

Altenew is running an "Ultimate Challenge Blog Hop".

I was thrilled as I'm on the Design Team for the CAS Mix Up blog and our blog was invited to take part in the blog hop, along with 17 other challenge blogs.

One of our founders, Bonnie Klass, made our blog's card but the rest of the CAS Mix Up Design Team is also making cards for the challenge.  Here's my card using the gorgeous Altenew Peony Bouquet stamp set.

Peonies are one of my favourite flowers and I have a few of them growing in my garden.  One of the loveliest is a pink one, so I watercoloured my images in shades of pink.

The stamps are heat embossed in white on hot press watercolour paper.  I used my Gansai Tambi watercolour paints, with the wet-on-wet technique (taught to me in a get-together with Loll Thompson, the other founder of CAS Mix Up).  See here for a video on how to do it.  I love the way the water moves the paint when you drop it in.

I fussy cut all of the images and arranged them on a die cut stitched rectangle panel that is popped up on fun foam.

Head on over to Altenew if you want to join in the blog hop and to link up your creation using Altenew products.  You might win a $35 gift certificate!
