Another Black Cat and Some Inkblending

I'm posting cards for the two AAA challenges today as they are linking up and offering prizes as long as you make different cards for each challenge.  For AAA Birthday Challenge "Favourite Colours", I've used blue, grey, and black - most of my clothes are in those colours!  I still had the Lavinia black cat sitting on my desk so decided to make a another birthday card using it as I have a few friends who love cats.  I'm also entering it at the Crazy for Cat Challenge.  It seems quite appropriate to be posting a black cat card on Friday Oct 13!

I masked a outer edges of a square and a moon on white cs and then blended Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire over it.  Then I removed the mask and stamped the botanical images in Iced Spruce.  I stamped the cat (with him partly going out of the square) and the sentiment in black.    Trimmed with a stitched square die and popped the panel up on fun foam.

And for AAA Challenge "Ink Blending with 3 or more colours", I made this card:

I used various Distress inks to create an ink blended background.  I trimmed it down and then heat embossed the delphinium in white.  The butterflies are die cut from a piece that I smooshed with Distress Oxide inks.

Blue Delphiniums

For a friend's upcoming birthday - she loves blue.

A very CAS card - stamped in navy blue, watercoloured, a bit of light blue spatter, a bit of white gel pen in some of the flower centres, bordered in blue, and embellished with a few tiny blue gemstones.

A New Delphinium Stamp

This month's Flower Challenge is:

One of my favourite flowers is the delphinium so when I saw this stamp by Magenta, I had to have it.  Here's the first card I made with it:

I chose to stamp it on kraft so that I could also enter it in the SCS Technique Lover's Challenge to colour an image on kraft cs.

I love the look of white heat embossing on kraft so used that for my stamp, and then coloured with Faber Castell coloured pencils. I trimmed the panel and edged it with a narrow strip of dark blue, then popped it up on fun foam for dimension.

I have a couple of other new flower stamps so hope to get another card made for this month's Flower Challenge - always good to be inspired to ink up new stamps!

Delphiniums are My Favourite Flower

This month's Flower Challenge is "Use Your Favorite Flower".  And it's their first birthday!  Happy Birthday to all of you who run it and on the Design Team!

Delphiniums are my favourite flower.  What I love about them are the tall spire shape of the flowers and all the lovely shades of blue, mauve, and purple that they come in.  I made a card using a combination of a delphinium die and stencil.

I stamped my sentiment on a piece of cs and then die cut it with the stitched rectangle and the Delphinium Circle dies.  If you don't know the Delphinium Circle die, it looks like this:

I created a background for the opening with two different blue sprays.  When I laid the die cut piece over it, it needed something more on the background so I took the Delphinium stencil and lightly sponged the flowers with Distress inks over the spray.   You can see how they fill in that centre gap in the die cut.

I then took the same colours of Distress inks and coloured the delphiniums of the die cut, making sure they came out more strongly coloured.  I went over just those ones with Wink of Stella.

The panel is popped up on a very thin layer of fun foam and the die cut delphiniums with thin foam tape.

Alcoholic Delphiniums

It's August 1st so time for the new CAS Mix Up challenge.

I'm a very keen gardener and one of my favourite flowers is the delphinium.  I love the beautiful shades of blue, mauve, purple, and pink that they come in.  When I came across the Memory Box Delphinium Circle die, I had to buy it.   Here's my card:

I chose all the delphinium-like colours amongst my alcohol inks and smooshed them on a piece of Yupo.  See Loll Thompson's video tutorial for information on the technique.

I die cut a large circle out of my piece and then die cut the Delphinium Circle from the centre of that.  Then I die cut an even larger stitched circle out of white cs.

I also die cut the Delphinium Circle out of a scrap of cs to use as a mask over the white circle so that I could figure out the placement of my stamping.  I have the discontinued Ranger Big and Juicy Hydrangea ink pad - a wonderful mix of the same blues and mauves, so used that for my stamping. The flowers are the closest thing I have to delphiniums that would fit with the die.  They are stamped in a mix of first and second generation inking.

Three little co-ordinating gemstones give a bit of sparkle and the whole panel is popped up on fun foam.

This is the second card I've made with the Delphinium Circle die - I'll post the first one after the recipient receives it!
