A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

A Baby Horse and an Easter Bunny

A twofer with animals today!

For Simply Clean and Simple, the theme is Baby Animals.  And AAA Cards is "Zoo or Animals".

I sponged Distress inks onto cs, and then stamped the horses (using my MISTI to get a good strong silhouette image).  I trimmed the panel with a hemstitch square die and layered over pink cs.  My sister's riding coach is having a baby girl so she asked me to make a horse-themed card for her to take to the baby shower.

Then for two Easter challenges - Double D and Festive Friday.  The Festive Friday elements I used are pastel colours, rabbit, Easter eggs, and Easter greeting.

I stamped the eggs from the old SU Nature Walk set in pastel shades of blue and then fussy cut them.  I arranged them on focal panel and then inked and spritzed some pastel green leaves around them, and sponged in some pastel blue in the spaces.  The rabbit is die cut from a leftover scrap of pale brown/beige smooshing.  I sat him on the biggest of the eggs and added a small sentiment.

Butterflies and Birds

My Time to Craft Challenge wants to see butterflies.  I used this as a chance to make a card for a friend who loves purple.

I created the background by sprinkling purple Brushos on watercolour paper and spritzing with water. When dry, I stamped and heat embossed the butterfly in white, and stamped the sentiment in black and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I trimmed the panel and popped it up on fun foam.

My next card also has a butterfly but it's for Can You Handle the Pressure? - use an embossing folder with a twist of birds.  I used my embossing folder to frame all my little images, including an image of a bird.

I stamped some of the images in black and some in dark brown, and then coloured them with coloured pencils. I die cut the images with a small square die cut. I stamped and heat embossed tiny sentiments on the two right hand squares. They are popped up on fun foam on a panel that is dry embossed with the border folder.

Pink Wildflowers and a Kraft-Coloured Bee

After my recent spring flowers, I'm going with a simple wildflower today.

I created a stenciled background in yellow and then stamped the images with a brown ink close to kraft. I then coloured them lightly with Distress markers scribbled on an acrylic block and a wet brush.

I've got the four colours for the current Color Throwdown challenge - the wildflowers are pink, the leaves are green, the bee is kraft-coloured, and the honeycomb and card base are yellow.
