A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Icy Polar Bears and Cosy Winter

ABC Christmas Challenge is "Y for Your Favourite Colours and / or Z is for Zoo Animals".  My favourite colours are blue and white, and I love them for snowy winter Christmas cards.  And polar bears are sometimes found in zoos.

I used a few shades of blue Distress inks, tapped them on my craft mat, added a bit of white shimmer paint and a bit of iridescent medium, spritzed all with water, and smooshed and dragged my watercolour paper in it. I die cut the polar bears twice out of white cs and glued them together before adding them to the smooshed panel. I die cut the sentiment, leaving the letters inside their outer section (much easier than gluing on each individual letter!).

Can You Handle the Pressure? wants an embossing folder and the theme of winter.  Sparkles Christmas Challenge wants "warm and cosy".

Stamped, watercoloured, popped up on fun foam on a background run through a snowflake embossing folder.

Tea with Books and Sunflowers with Horses

Sweet Stampin' wants to see "Beverages" and Shopping our Stash wants to see a "Just Because" card.   A friend gave me this stamp set as she thought it was perfect for me as a retired librarian - it's the first time I've used it so entering it in NBUS as well.

I coloured it in blue as I'm going to send it to my youngest sister who loves blue, tea, and reading as much as I do, and loves to get cards from me.

The image is coloured with coloured pencils and popped up on fun foam. The background is an embossing folder that went well with the scrolls on the tea cup.

I've also got a card for Double D "Sunflowers"

I stamped the image and coloured it with coloured pencils, bordered with black cs, mounted on a kraft card base, and added a white heat embossed sentiment on a scrap of black cs.

Coloured Books

For the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge "Any Colouring Medium":

This is a quick CAS card - coloured with coloured pencils, then Gamsol to blend the colouring, a bit of shading below, and a great sentiment.

I set it on an angle because I needed to drop the books and coffee cup lower on the card - somehow when I had it level it all looked top heavy.

It's perfect to send to a friend of mine.  He's a retired librarian (like me) and he loves coffee and music, and reads tons of books (puts me to shame as I'm too busy making cards, gardening, volunteering with horses, etc. to get as much reading done as I'd like to).

Green Mistletoe and Canadian Olympic Team Colours

First up today for the Double D Challenge, they are offering the option of a St. Patrick's Day theme or a green, white, and gold colour theme.  I have no need of St. Patrick's Day cards so went with the colours.  And they are ideal colours for a Christmas card (of which I have need of many).

I stamped and watercoloured the mistletoe branch on mixed media cs and then carefully cut two narrow strips out of the panel on a diagonal.

I bordered each of those three pieces with dark gold cs and added fun foam to the back of each of them.

I carefully lined them up on the card base and drew pencil lines between them, then took them off and set them aside. I put the card base in my MISTI and stamped the two sentiments between my pencil lines. When the sentiments were dry, I erased the pencil lines and added the three image sections to the card base. Last step was adding some Stickles to the berries.

And another colour theme challenge is over at the Male Room where they are asking for team colours.  I went with the Canadian Winter Olympics Team's colours of red, black, and white.

This stamp seemed ideal since it mentions "winter".  I'm not a big sports fan but I do watch a lot of the Winter Olympics.

A very CAS card - stamped, watercoloured, bordered in black, and popped up on fun foam.

Thanks for stopping by today.  More CAS Christmas tomorrow!

CAS Challenges

A couple of cards for two of the CAS challenges that close soon.

First up is Less is More - "Beverages".

Here's my card:

The image and sentiment below it are all part of one stamp - I just love the sentiment.  A very easy card to make - stamped it, watercoloured it, trimmed the panel, bordered with black cs, and popped it up on fun foam.

And then the ATCAS Challenge - "Horizon".

I went with another winter / Christmas card as I need to build up my stash for my fundraiser.

Another very quick card - the frame, horse, trees, and clouds are all one die cut. So all I had to do was cut it, layer it over snowy dp, add a sentiment, and pop it up on foam.

Thanks for stopping by!  I promise I'll come back soon with something that's not a Christmas or winter card!

A Masculine Birthday

I made this as a birthday card for a male friend who is an avid reader and who loves coffee.

The image is coloured with coloured pencils and blended with Gamsol.

When finished, I had a smudge of oily Gamsol on the lower right edge so stamped and die cut "happy birthday" to cover it up!

It's going over to two challenges:

Supplies:
Stamps - Stamplorations
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - white and red cs
