A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Valentines

Three Valentine cards today (my best friend always asks me to make some for her each year which gets my fund raiser started well before my Christmas card sale in November!).

We Love Stamping wants hearts and Sweet Stampin' wants love - both require stamped images so this card is for them.  It's also for NBUS as it's a stamp I've had for a while and never used.

I stamped it, coloured the hearts with a red alcohol marker, trimmed the panel, bordered it with black, and added it to my card base.  A great "back to basics" kind of card!

Color Hues wants red and pink, and Try It On Tuesday wants love.  Time Out wants at least two of sparkle, heart, red, pink, aperture, and twine (I have heart, red, and pink).  It's also going off to Snippets as I used some leftover bits of red cs, a bit of a pink smooshed background, and a couple of strips of white cs for the sentiment and the embossed strip.

Another quick and easy card but this time using die cuts.  I die cut the three hearts and the sentiment banner, and dry embossed the background strip.

And one more that is less CAS, more mixed media.  It's for Allsorts "Create Your Own Background".

I made a background by first stamping some randomly inked text with Vintage Photo ink. I then laid a heart stencil over the text stamping and used translucent embossing paste through it. It looked kind of bland so I lightly sponged over the panel with the Vintage Photo and that gave more definition to the stencilled hearts.

The large heart is stamped with Versamark on burgundy cs and then gold Pearl Ex was brushed over it (and sealed it with a fixative). I fussy cut the heart, put fun foam on the back, and added it to the background panel.

Valentines 3

You all know that making Christmas cards is my first love, but I have to say I've really enjoyed making a bunch of Valentine cards for my best friend's special order.

This first one is for Penny Black Saturday Challenge "Hearts".

The image is stamped and watercoloured, trimmed with a square die, bordered with red cs, and on a kraft cardbase.

And here's today's Twofer.  My friend who ordered the cards always wants one or two with birds on them.  This is going off to Stamping Sensations "Valentines", My Time to Craft "Hearts", Cardz 4 Guyz "Clean and Simple", and Simply Clean and Simple "Hearts".

The heart is stamped with Versamark on burgundy cs and then brushed gold Pearl Ex over it (and sealed it with a fixative).  I fussy cut the heart, put foam tape on the back, and added it to a rectangle trimmed with a stitched die.  I added a sentiment die cut from gold shimmer cs.

Flying Dove

The Male Room has a challenge that lent itself to creating another Christmas card.

I chose a dove in flight, with muted masculine colours.

I stamped the dove with Versamark on navy cs, then added Heat and Stick powder so that I could add Pearl Ex - white on the dove, green on the leaf. The sentiment is heat embossed in silver. I bordered with green shimmer cs, and mounted on a white card base.

While I had everything out, I made a second one - this time a square card with the image trimmed tighter.

I'd love to know which one you like best.

Supplies:
Stamps - SU Calm Christmas, Tim Holtz sentiment
Ink - ColorBox silver, Versamark
Paper - green shimmer, white, and navy cs
Size - A2 and 4.75" square
Accessories - silver embossing powder, Heat & Stick powder, Pearl Ex (Interference Green and Pearl White)

Pearl Ex Holly

This week's 52 Christmas Card Challenge is "Christmas Foliage".  I went with holly.

I used a Penny Black holly stencil with texture paste on black cs and sprinkled interference green Pearl Ex on the embossing paste while still wet.  I like the variegation in colour it gave.  I want to try other colours of Pearl Ex on embossing paste.

I trimmed down the panel and bordered it with pale green shimmer paper, and put it on a white shimmer card base.

Red glitter dome embellishments finish it off.

Another one ready for Christmas!

Supplies:  Penny Black stencil, embossing paste, Pearl Ex powder, red glitter dome embellishments, white and pale green shimmer cs, black cs
