No Stamping Birthday and Green with Butterflies

Seize the Birthday wants to see a "no stamping" card and the AAA Birthday Card Challenge wants something masculine.  I combined the two for my nephew's upcoming birthday.

I started by spraying some mixed media cs with gold and a little bit of silver metallic sprays. When dry, I die cut the gears border and the sentiment.

I glued them to a background on which I'd lightly stencilled some gold ink, and then popped the panel up on fun foam for some dimension. 

Triple B wants to see birds, blooms, or butterflies in green, and the Double D challenge wants to see mostly green on the card.

I created a debossed inky resist with my butterflies embossing folder by rubbing the raised pattern with Versamark, putting mixed media cs into the folder, and running it through my Cuttlebug, and then adding clear embossing powder and heating it.  See this video for instructions.

I then smooshed the panel with a bunch of green Distress inks and a little touch of blue.  I added the panel to the card base and die cut a solid butterfly out of white shimmer cs and the top layer of the butterfly out of blue shimmer cs (I tried doing it with green shimmer cs but there wasn't enough contrast and also I wanted to bring out the touch of blue in the background a bit).

More Valentines

I keep meaning to do another post with Valentines for some of the February challenges but life has been busy.  So finally, here we are.

For My Time to Craft "Cupid and / or Arrow", Sisterhood of Crafters "Love", Double D "Heartfelt", and Heart's Quest Fantasy Challenge "Cupid":

The cupid is die cut from a piece of mixed media cs smooshed with pink and red inks.  I also die cut three tiny red hearts and a red circle.  I layered a paper doily over the red circle, sat the cupid in the middle, added the hearts, and stamped a sentiment.

Next up, a card for Stencil Fun "Love / Hearts", Color Throwdown "Red, Kraft, and White", and Cardz 4 Guyz "Love".

On heavy-weight kraft cs, I stenciled the random grid lines with white embossing paste. In one of the gaps at the bottom right, I stamped my sentiment.

I die cut the red heart cluster and glued it over the centre. It looked too plain so I glued a bunch of tiny white hearts left over from another die cut.

And one more - for Can You Handle the Pressure? "Red and  / or Pink", Colorful Options "Pink", Simply Clean and Simple "Pink", and Heart's Quest Celebration of Love Challenge "Valentine's Day".

For this card, I used the Debossed Inky Resist technique seen in this video. 

Following the instructions in the video, I lightly rubbed Versamark over the raised design side of the embossing folder.  Then placed watercolour paper inside the embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug.  I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.  The Versamark and embossing powder created a resist for the next step of smooshing with various pink Distress inks. 

 

I die cut a stitched heart opening in a panel of white cs, layered it over my pink embossed resist panel, added it to a white card base, and topped with a black die cut sentiment.

Embossing Folder Resist Background

Following the instructions in the video, I lightly rubbed Versamark over one side of the embossing folder.  Then placed watercolour paper inside the embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug.  I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.  The Versamark and embossing powder created a resist for the next step of smooshing with Distress inks.  I used Tattered Rose, Antique Linen, and Bundled Sage, tapped onto my craft mat and spritzed with water.  I then smooshed the embossed panel into it until I was happy with the results.  

 

Then die cut leaves and flowers out of off-white cs, put it all together with some twine around the stems, and used an off-white card base.

 

I'm sneaking it in under the wire for the Can You Handle the Pressure? challenge to use an embossing folder.

More Inky Resist and Some Faux Stitching

My first card is for a couple of Darlene and Diane's challenges.  The Double D Challenge's theme is "green" and their Can You Handle the Pressure Challenge wants to see "things with wings" along with using an embossing folder.

 

 

I'm still enjoying playing with the Debossed Inky Resist technique that my Group of Seven Cardmakers tried last month.  Instructions can be found in this video:

I trimmed the panel down, added it to a cream card base, and die cut a green butterfly base and a cream shimmer butterfly top.

My second card is for Inkspirational "Stitching, Real or Faux".  My card uses faux stitching creating by a die cut.

 

The wreath is die cut and watercoloured.  The berries that belong to the holly leaves are watercoloured red, but the berries that belong to the mistletoe leaves stayed white but disappeared against the white panel so I took a grey pencil and added some shading to them - they ended up looking like dirty berries but at least they show up!  I die cut my panel with a wonky stitched square die and popped it up on fun foam on the card base.  Finished off with red die cut bow and sentiment.

Group of Seven Cardmakers - Debossed Inky Resist

This month our crafty zoom group (the Group of Seven Cardmakers) tried out a technique called Debossed Inky Resist.  It was based on a video Julia found on Splitcoaststampers:

Following the instructions in the video, I lightly rubbed Versamark over the raised design side of the embossing folder.  Then placed watercolour paper inside the embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug.  I sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set.  The Versamark and embossing powder created a resist for the next step of smooshing with Distress inks.  I used Picked Raspberry, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet, and a little bit of Bundled Sage, tapped onto my craft mat and spritzed with water.  I then smooshed the embossed panel into it until I was happy with the results.  I then repeated with the same colours in Distress Oxide inks to get a little bit of additional texture.

I finished the card with a die cut poppy (a layer of scrap cs and a top layer of cream shimmer cs) and a sentiment banner.  Added the panel to a cream card base.

 

It was a fun technique that gave nice artsy results.  I went on to make a few more backgrounds with different embossing folders and experimenting with using both the raised pattern side as in this card and with using the opposite side of the embossing folder which gives a raised ink smooshed pattern.  I'll be posting them once I've turned them into cards.
