A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

A Reindeer in a Shaker and a Snowman

Some snowy stuff today.  First of all a reindeer in a snowy shaker for Shopping Our Stash "Shake It Up":

I die cut the snowglobe out of white cs and out of two layers of fun foam. I glued a circle of acetate between the white cs and the top layer of fun foam. I die cut a tree out of a scrap of green smooshed background and the deer out of a scrap of textured gold cs, and tore a scrap of white cs for snowy ground. I glued them all to the navy card base, sprinkled a little bit of Stampendous "Spoonful of Snow" on top and then added the snowglobe to the top of that. The sentiment is die cut from the same scrap of gold as the reindeer.

Since a shaker card looks different every time it's shaken, here's another view with less of the glittery snow in the sky:

My second card is a snowman for ABC Christmas Challenge "S for Snowman" and Sparkles Christmas Challenge "Build Me a Snowman".

I love this snowman because it rains more than it snows here in Vancouver so I love the fact that he has an umbrella!

Watercoloured, trimmed with a stitched rectangle die, popped up on fun foam on an off-white card base.

A Snowglobe, Flowers, and a Bird

It's been cold and snowy (unusual for Vancouver at this time of year) so I've spent more time in my craft room than usual, so today I've got three cards.

A snowglobe for Jingle Belles ("a holiday card with a see-through element") and 52 Christmas Card Throwdown ("acetate).

Here's another photo, taken flat (rather than standing up) so that you can see the snow sprinkles better.

Next up, for Penny Black Saturday Challenge ("hearts and / or flowers") and Beautiful Blossoms ("focus on flowers / florals").

A very CAS card - flowers coloured with coloured pencils and the colouring blended with Gamsol, a heat embossed blue sentiment, trimmed with a stitched rectangle die, bordered in blue, and popped up on fun foam for some dimension.

And finally, for AAA Card Challenge ("a CAS card with a circle").

The background is coated cs sprinkled with bister and then spritzed with water. I stamped the little bird collage image on it in brown archival ink and then thought it would stand out more if it was heat embossed - luckily it was in my MISTI so I was able to stamp with Versamark on top of the brown archival ink, and then heat emboss with clear embossing powder. I added it behind a die cut circle opening in a cream shimmer card base.  I put an insert inside the card to cover the mess of taping the image piece on the inside - and also to write on as it's hard to write on the shimmery cardstock.)

A Snow Globe

Sneaking in under the wire for the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown challenge "Snow Globes".

The snowman is stamped and coloured with coloured pencils.  The snow globe and sentiment are stamped and heat embossed and die cut with the co-ordinating die.  I also die cut the snow globe out of thick sticky-backed foam, added a piece of acetate between the foam and the top snow globe, filled it with a variety of glitter and microbeads, and then stuck the snowman to the back of it.  The whole piece is on a snowflake embossed background.

A Snowglobe for Jingle Belles

The Jingle Belles challenge inspired this card:

I was inspired by the snowglobes, the dark pastel colours, and the coloured background from their inspiration image:

But I had to go with blue rather than their purple as I'm really not a purple person (but love blue and white for Christmas cards).

I used my new Taylored Expressions stamp / die combo.  I stamped it in black and die cut it, and also die cut two others without stamping to stack up behind it. I glued acetate between the top two layers.

On the small centre piece that got cut out of the die, I stamped and heat embossed the cabin. Then sponged bright blue for the sky and very light blue for the snowy ground. I added glitter to the trees and roof, and sprinkled a bit of extra glitter over the acetate.

I glued everything to a background of snowy dp and then mounted on a white cardbase.

I've been thinking of lots of my stamps that would work really well for the interior image of the snowglobe so might make a few more.

Supplies:
Stamps - SU Cozy Christmas cabin, Taylored Expressions snowglobe, unknown sentiment
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne, various Distress blues
Paper - white cs, unknown dp
Size - 4.75" square

Black and Silver Christmas

Two Christmas cards totally out of my Christmas colour comfort zone!

I stamped the snowglobe and the accompanying medieval town in black, bordered with silver mirri cs, and went over the snowflakes and some of the dots with a Stardust gel pen, and added silver ball embellishments to the centres of the snowflakes.

And the second card, inspired by my friend Loll:

On a piece of black cs, I used silver glitter paste through a branch of berries and leaves. I bordered with silver glitter cs and added a die cut sentiment from the same glitter cs.

The first card is going to The Paper Players Tic Tac Toe challenge - I chose the right vertical column - "square card, masculine, neutrals".

And to Jingle Belles - I was inspired by their image to use a snowglobe stamp:

The second card is going to 52 Christmas Card Throwdown:
