A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

CAS Gilded Star

The Sparkles Christmas Challenge is asking for a CAS (clean and simple) card.

I sprayed and splattered the card base with gold and copper sprays, and stamped the sentiment.

For the star, I used FlitterGlu and gilding flakes on the star stamp and stamped it on black cs - I'd done this technique on white cs before and wanted to see how the gilding flakes were on black. I then fussy cut it, scored it, folded it, and popped it up with foam tape.

A Hot Drink for Winter

I'm trying to get back into making cards and blogging after my vacation.  I seem to have come home feeling very lethargic - too busy a trip plus I came home with a cough (not Covid) so a bit under the weather.  But finally gearing myself up to write a post with this card for the Christmas Cards All Year Round "Christmas / Winter Hot Drink" challenge:

Stamped, watercoloured, popped up on fun foam on blue cs out of which I die cut small snowflakes.

I was inspired by the Christmas Cards All Year Round photo inspiration:

Supplies:
Stamps - Stamplorations
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - white and blue cs, mixed media cs
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, small snowflake dies, fun foam

A new Peace on Earth Challenge!  I was inspired by the mood board's top right image (see below) to make this card:

Here's the mood board:

You can take inspiration from it or you can create an "anything Christmas" card and link up with Peace on Earth before September 29th.

Stamps - unknown sentiment
Ink - Memento Cottage Ivy

Holly with DP Borders

The new Peace on Earth has an image of holly in the top right that made me decide to use holly as my theme.  A good chance to use a stamp I hadn't ever inked up!

I watercoloured the holly with Inktense watercolour pencils, then trimmed the panel and added two borders of decorative paper.  I chose the lighter one because the shade of its red and green snowflakes reminded me of some of the snowflakes on the lower left image on the mood board.

Peace on Earth always has fabulous mood boards to inspire you, but in case they don't, it's also an "anything Christmas goes" challenge, so please come and join us!

Supplies:
Stamps - Visible Image "Inked Holly"
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watercolour paper, cream cs, dp
Size - A2
Accessories - Inktense watercolour pencils

Shining Stars, Sparkling Reindeer

Hideko is the host of this month's CAS Christmas challenge.  She would like to see Sparkle and / or Shine.  I went with both in this card:

I found a scrap of black cs in my backgrounds box that I'd sprinkled with copper Magicals and spritzed with water - it wasn't very effective but you can see a bit of the Magicals shimmer around the stars. I used it as a base to create a night sky with copper embossing paste through a star stencil - this gives a wonderful shine. The reindeer is die cut from sparkly copper shimmer cs.

We'd love to have you join us at CAS Christmas.  There is lots more inspiration from our wonderful Guest Designer, JoAnn (Crafty Nana's Blog) and the rest of the Design Team.  You have until September 24th to link up your CAS card featuring Sparkle and / or Shine.
