A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Christmas and Winter

My Time to Craft Christmas challenge's theme is Lights (candles, lamps, etc.).

A simple stamped and watercoloured image, bordered in red, popped up on fun foam on a panel embossed with stars.

Shopping our Stash wants to see "Winter not Christmas", My Time to Craft wants "Something Snow Related", and Stamping Sensations  wants "Winter".

I stamped a large snowflake background stamp in Versamark and then went over it with a couple of shades of Pan Pastels (a product I rarely use).  I trimmed the panel, popped it up on fun foam on a cream card base, and stamped and heat embossed a sentiment on a strip of the same cream card stock and popped it up on the panel.

Blue Christmas for Peace on Earth

Blue is my favourite colour so I immediately knew which images on the new Peace on Earth mood board (see at end of my post) would inspire this card:

I chose a stamp I've never used before as it had both the candle for the top right hand image and ornaments and a poinsettia for the bottom left hand image.  I used both the pale blues of the candle image and the rich royal blues of the other image.

I stamped my image and sentiment in dark blue ink.  Then watercoloured the image with regular watercolours for the candle, greenery, and poinsettia, and shimmer watercolours for the ornaments and tiny stars.  I trimmed the panel with a label die.

I created the background by using glitter paste through a snowflake stencil on dark blue shimmer cs.  The candle image is popped up on it on fun foam.

Here's the Peace on Earth mood board:

There is lots of other inspiration from the rest of the Design Team.  Please join us!  I'm curious to see how many of you enter with something inspired by the blue images like me or choose to go with the red and green Christmas plaid.  Or of course you can opt for an "anything Christmas" card.

I'm also entering this card in the NBUS "Never Before Used Stuff" challenge as it's the first time the candle stamp and the "snow angel" glitter paste were used.  And also the Stencil Fun Challenge "Shades of Blue".

A Christmas Candle and a Sympathy Card

The Color Throwdown Challenge wants red, blue, and green on a card.  I went with making a Christmas card.

I stamped and heat embossed in platinum, watercoloured with red, blue, and green (including a white shimmer watercolour paint for the candle), popped up on fun foam on a green card base, and added red, green, and blue gemstones to the ends of the twirly lines.

The Paper Players want a CAS sympathy card.

I inked up the flower with two mini Memento ink pads, spritzed very lightly, and stamped. I trimmed the panel and popped it up on fun foam on the embossed background.

Baubles and Christmas Colours

Usually with a mood board I am inspired by one particular image in it but for this Peace on Earth challenge, I used a mixture of elements from the mood board - the colours in the top two images and the baubles in the bottom left.

The image is stamped and watercoloured, with a shimmery white watercolour paint used for the candle (unfortunately the photo doesn't show the shimmer).  I used a narrow black mat, popped the panel up on fun foam on a red card base, and added a Tim Holtz sentiment sticker.

Here's the Peace on Earth mood board:

You can either be inspired by it or enter an "anything Christmas" card in our challenge.

Supplies:
Stamps - Jofy candle
Ink - Versafine Onyx black
Paper - watercolour paper, red and black cs
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, TH sentiment sticker, fun foam

Soft Colours Candle

The Peace on Earth challenge has a great mood board if you're looking for some inspiration to use non-traditional colours.  Here's the card I made:

I stamped the image on watercolour paper and coloured it with pearlescent watercolour paints trying to capture the blue and muted colour of the leaves and ornaments.  I splattered with some watered down gold paint.  I cut a thin frame out of my panel and discarded it, and then cut another out of a pale gold cs and inserted it into the gap.  I popped it up on fun foam on a cream card base.

Here's the mood board that inspired me (see bottom left image):

There's lots more inspiration from the rest of our Design Team over at Peace on Earth.  Please come and join us - you can either be inspired by the mood board or make an "anything Christmas" card.
