A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

One More Valentine and Winter Wishes

Still trying to get my Valentines posted.  This one is for Sisterhood of Crafters "Love".

I cut a rectangle of very pale silver shimmer cs that is the same colour as the silver hearts in the piece of ribbon I found in my scrap box. I attached the ribbon down the left side. I die cut the heart cluster and the love sentiment out of red cs, and popped out the interior hearts and set them aside for a future project. I glued the outline hearts to the panel. Then I cut the heart cluster out of white glitter cs and popped out the interior hearts and added them to the interiors of the outline hearts. For some dimension, I popped the panel up on fun foam on a white card base.

For The Four Seasons Challenge "Winter" and Word Power "The Sentiment as Focus".

I made a background with light blue Magicals sprinkled on mixed media cs and spritzed with water. The snowflakes are die cut from glitter cs; the sentiment from blue shimmer cs.

Dogs Running on Ribbon

I'm back with a reminder card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge - I'm thrilled to be their Guest Designer this month.  It's Anything Goes - Optional "Use Ribbon or Twine".  So I opted to use ribbon as a way to ground my parade of Christmas dogs.

A quick CAS card!  Stamped, watercoloured, a strip of paw print ribbon to ground the pups, and a border of black die cut on the top with the sentiment die.

Thank you, Penny Black Saturday Challenge, for inviting me to Guest Design this month!

I'm also linking up with the Color Throwdown.  They want red, black, grey, and white.

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - watercolour paper, black and white cs
Size - A2

Tulips and Ribbon for Penny Black

I'm thrilled to be Guest Designing for Two Different Challenges, but both of them go live on the same day so I have to subject you to two blog posts today!

This post is for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The challenge is Anything Goes with an Optional Twist of Ribbon or Twine.

I went with the optional twist of ribbon.

This beautiful tulip image lends itself perfectly to be tied with a bow!

Steps:
  • Stamped it with Versafine and heat embossed it with a pearl lustre ep - in real life, there is a nice sheen to the stamping.
  • Watercoloured the image, working on the shading as best I could.
  • Stamped the sentiment in a similar green.
  • Cut small slits each side of the stems and wound the gingham ribbon through it twice, tying it in a bow when finished.
  • Die cut with an A2 stitched rectangle and mounted on the card base.
  • Embellished with a scattering of various coloured gemstones.
Looking forward to seeing what you make for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this month!

I'm also linking it up over at The Flower Challenge where they are asking for spring flowers if we live in the northern hemisphere or autumn flowers if we live in the southern.

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black Flutterby tulips, Judith sentiment
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black, Memento Bamboo Leaves
Paper - watercolour paper, cream cs
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, yellow gingham ribbon, Lil Inker stitched rectangle die, various coloured gemstones

Christmas Challenges

I've been busy since my last post - getting Christmas baking done in advance, making more Christmas cards to write and mail, doing some extra volunteer shifts at the therapeutic riding as our university student volunteers are all busy with exams.

But got inspired by a couple of challenges to get a post done.

First up, the Double D "Run Rudolph Run" Challenge wants to see a deer on our projects:

I took a piece of mixed media cs and spritzed it with water and then rubbed three different Distress stains over it, and spritzed a bit more to get the colours to blend.

I trimmed it with a deckle edge die and added a gold embossed sentiment. I die cut the reindeer out of a gold moire textured cs and again out of white cs - glued them together for more substance. Also die cut a few little gold stars. Glued the pieces on the background and popped up on fun foam.

And for the 4 Craft Chicks "Ribbon and Bows" challenge:

I stamped and heat embossed the image and sentiment in green on a cream cs, trimmed it and cut a slightly longer panel of green cs, mounted the image, and then wrapped the bottom of the green cs with a gingham ribbon and added a bow.

Since the image is from a song, I mounted it on a music-embossed background and used fun foam to popped it up on the card base.

More Christmas cards to come in the next few days!

Ribbon, Glitter, and an Ornament

The new 52 Christmas Card Throwdown is a stash challenge:

I went with a glittered ornament and "hung" it with ribbon:

The ornament was stamped and then covered with a piece of double sided tape before die cutting.  I removed the backing from the tape and sprinkled glitter all over it.

I die cut a red panel and a white panel with stitched rectangle dies, and a "joy" sentiment in white.  The ornament is popped up on foam tape and the ribbon and bow attached to it.

Here's a close-up of the glitter on the ornament (it was really hard to photograph):

I sold almost all of my Christmas cards (and also many donated by my generous crafty friends, Loll Thompson and Christine Alexander) at my fundraiser sale on Sunday.  So I'm afraid I'll be posting many more over the next few weeks as I work hard to make enough for myself to mail out!!

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black ornament stamp
Ink - SU Real Red
Paper - white and red cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Spellbinders Joy and Ornament dies, Martha Stewart glitter, double sided tape, Lil Inkers stitched rectangle dies, ribbon, foam tape
