A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Poinsettia and Star

Sneaking in under the wire with a poinsettia card for the Christmas Kickstart Challenge "Positively Poinsettias".  It's also going to My Time to Craft Christmas which wants Christmas flowers.  And I think it has enough of a vintage look for The Twelve Months of Christmas Link-up "Vintage" challenge.

I stamped the poinsettia postcard three times. For the bottom layer, I did a bit of watercolour painting on the tiny bell, tiny reindeer, and the flourishes. On the second layer I painted the green leaves and then fussy cut the whole poinsettia. On the third layer, I painted the red petals and just fussy cut that section of the poinsettia. I glued the two fussy cut layers onto the bottom panel and attached that to my card base.

I tried to photograph it so you could see the dimension and the layers.

My second card is for 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Embossing", Can You Handle the Pressure? (use an embossing folder), Rudolph Days (anything Christmas), and Shopping our Stash "Outta this World" (I chose the option of stars).

I die cut the large star out of kraft cs and streaked a bit of white gesso across it. Pierced a hole in the top of it and threaded a strip of red gingham ribbon through it. Taped the ribbon on the back of the background panel that was run through a 3D embossing folder. I think this folder gives the idea of the star handing in a Christmas tree.  Added foam tape to the back of the star to pop it up a bit. Stamped the sentiment in red and added the bow and the small silver star.

Simple Pine Branches

Peace on Earth has a green and white mood board for this challenge.  I looked at the bottom left image (see it at the end of my post) and immediately thought of SU's Ornamental Pine set so made this card:

I stamped the pine branches with brown and green, and layered it behind a card base that I'd cut an oval opening out of.  It's taped flat around the outer edges but put foam tape around the oval opening to raise it off the image a bit.  I had to cover the back of the pine panel with something as there was a big smudge on it so I added a lightweight folded liner, using a narrow green ribbon to hold it in place.  I embellished the pine branches with some stick-on sparkle drops.

Please check out the inspiration from the rest of the Design Team and join us at Peace on Earth with a card.  We'd love to see you be inspired by our mood board, but if not, you can enter an "anything Christmas" card.

Stamped and Dry Embossed Pine and Pinecones

52 Christmas Card Throwdown wants an embossing folder on our Christmas cards this time.  I used one as a background that totally ties in with my stamped image.

I love the way the embossing folder has the pine branches and pine cones that are in the stamped image.  The image is coloured with coloured pencils and die cut with a circle die.  The sentiment is die cut once out of dark green and once out of white and glued together to give it more dimension.

Supplies:
Stamps - Serendipity chickadees
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - white and dark green cs
Size - 4.75" square
Accessories - coloured pencils, Sizzix embossing folder, MFT sentiment die, Spellbinders circle die

White Pine on Kraft

This month at CAS Christmas, Trina is asking us to use "Pine" as our theme.  Here's my card:

I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment and pine branch in white on kraft cs.  Then did the same with the pine cone on a scrap of kraft cs and fussy cut it.  I glued its stem to the branch and popped the rest of it up a bit with foam tape.  Trimmed the panel and added it to a kraft card base, bordering it with a white thin rectangle die cut frame.

Please come and join us at CAS Christmas.  There's lots more inspiration from the Design Team and this month's Guest Designers, Elizabeth (Paper Sweetness) and Lucie (Lucie G Cards).

Supplies:
Stamps - SU Ornamental Pine
Ink - ColorBox white
Paper - kraft and white cs
