A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Sled Against a Brick Wall

The new Peace on Earth challenge's mood board has an image of a sled leaning against a brick wall.  It inspired this card.

Using the Tim Holtz brick wall stencil, I sponged with Hickory Smoke and Pumice Stone Distress inks, then went over it with translucent embossing paste.  I trimmed the panel and tore a piece of white cs to create snowy ground.  I stamped the sentiment on it in dark green (and chose a sentiment with the word "believe" in it to go with the word on the sled in the inspiration photo).  I die cut a couple of pieces of greenery (inspired by the greenery on the sled in the photo) and put them on the top of the wall.  I used a white pearl pen to put the white berries on one of them.  The sled is die cut twice from scrap cs and once from a leftover bit of brown smooshed cs, all glued together to give it more dimension.

There's lots more inspiration from the rest of our Design Team over at Peace on Earth!  We'd love to have you join us!

Christmas Card for a Child

Christmas Cards All Year Round wants a card for a child.  I thought this image of a dog and a cat having fun sledding was perfect.

The image is watercoloured with a little bit of very pale blue splatter, and bordered in red cs.

I'm also adding it to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge "anything Penny Black goes" and Rudolph Days Christmas Card Challenge.

Rustic Sled

This time the Peace on Earth mood board includes a great image of a rustic sled.  I was at my friend Loll's house recently and spotted a perfect stamp in her collection so stamped it off and brought it home to turn into this card for my DT card for the challenge.

It's coloured with coloured pencils, then I trimmed the panel with a rectangle die and then took a thin frame out of the white panel so that the red of the card base can show through.  I went over the snow at the bottom with a Quickie glue pen and added some glitter but it's not showing up in the photo.

I somehow stamped my sentiment upside down on the white panel so had to restamp it on a scrap and die cut it with an oval to cover the upside down one!

Head on over to Peace on Earth to see what the rest of the Design Team came up with!  Here's the mood board for this challenge if you want to be inspired by it - if not, enter an "anything Christmas" card.

Stamps - Serendipity sled, unknown sentiment
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocture
Paper - white and dark red cs

Winter Fun and Flowery Thanks

The Jingle Belles want to see "Winter Fun" this time.  I went with some animals have fun sledding in the snow:

Stamped on watercolour paper, watercoloured, trimmed with wonky stitched die, bordered in copper, and a bit of glue and glitter along the snowline.

The Penny Black Saturday Challenge is "Anything Goes".  I made a thank you card:

Using my MISTI, I inked the agapanthus up with various Distress markers, one colour at a time, spritzing after each colour and stamping, then going back to do the next colour.

I bordered it with a dark green, heat embossed the sentiment in white on the same dark green, and added a few iridescent gemstones that have the same dark blue and purple in them.

Snowed In

Time for a new Peace on Earth Challenge with a great mood board to inspire you.  It inspired me to make this card:

I embossed a piece of white cs with the TH brick wall embossing folder and then rubbed Distress Fired Brick ink over the raised areas.  I die cut the door twice and glued it together for more substance; likewise die cut the sled twice out of brown cs.  Glued both to the brick wall background and added copper nailhead embellishment as a door handle.

I didn't like the bottom of the card so tore a strip of white cs, stamped the sentiment on it, and added it on top - makes it look as if the people are snowed in with the snow coming up against the door!

To make it look more Christmas-like, I punched a few little pine sprigs from decorative paper, glued them together to make a swag for the door, and added a red bow.

Here's the Peace on Earth inspiration board (you can see that I was inspired by the photo on the upper right):

We'd love to have you join us with either an "anything Christmas goes" card or something inspired by the mood board!

Pony Pulling Puppy (and Reading Books)

Sneaking in under the wire for a couple of challenges.

First up for Christmas Cards All Year Round - something starting with O or P.  My card is "P" for a pony pulling a puppy.  It's also for Cardz 4 Guyz "Things with Tails".

Stamped on watercolour paper, watercoloured, trimmed with wonky stitched die, bordered in copper, and a bit of glue and glitter along the snowline.

And for Day of the Month Challenge "Book Lovers' Day":

This is a very quick CAS card - an old PTI image stamped in navy, the sentiment in beige, and then the panel bordered in matching cs colours.

Thanks for dropping by today!

Vintage Winter Sledding

A very quick CAS card today for a couple of challenges.

I added drops of blue metallic ink to coated cs, spritzed with water and let it spread around, and then patted off the excess with paper towel.

Once it was dry, I stamped and heat embossed in black, trimmed the panel, and popped it up on fun foam on a linen card base.

I'm linking up with these challenges:

Christmas Kickstart Challenge - "You Sleigh Me" - sledges, sleds, and sleighs

Supplies:
Stamps - Inkadinkado
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne

A Couple of Christmas Cards

Christmas Cards All Year Round is asking for "Snow Buddies".

I went with some animal friends playing in the snow.

Stamped on watercolour paper, watercoloured, trimmed with wonky stitched die, bordered in copper, and a bit of glue and glitter along the snowline.

And then for 12 Months of Christmas "Blooming Botanicals":

I created a background panel by stamping a flourish in grey and then sponging around the edges with the same grey ink.

The poinsettia is watercoloured with Inktense pencils and fussy cut.

Might get more posted tomorrow as it's supposed to rain so it won't be a gardening day.
