A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Hedgehogs and Stars

I would love to use up some of decorative / patterned paper I've had for many years but my card making style has changed a lot so it's no longer the go-to supply it used to be.  I'm challenging myself to try and use it a few times a month even if it's only to border a focal image like I did in today's card:

I stamped and watercoloured the image, using metallic gold paint for the stars.  I bordered with a decorative paper covered in metallic gold stars and embellished with Fun Flock on the brims and pom poms of the hats.

It's being linked up at:

Penny Black Saturday Challenge - "Anything Goes - Optional Embellishment" - I'm not sure if Fun Flock counts as an embellishment but it's great to use on Santa hats.

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watercolour paper, off white cs, Bazzill dp
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, Fun Flock

Love these sweet mice and hedgehogs celebrating Christmas together!

Stamped and watercoloured, bordered with black, and a sentiment and a string of gold peel-off stars to finish.

One Birthday Card and One Christmas Card

I've got two cards for you today.  First up a birthday one for Just Us Girls who want script on the card:

I haven't used my old SU Elements of Style stamp for far too long. I stamped and heat embossed it and the sentiment, and then added text stamping and sponging around it.  I popped the panel up on fun foam and added pearls to the flower centres.

In hindsight, I wish I'd kept the sponging a bit lighter but was going for a vintage look.

Next on to a Christmas card for Jingle Belles and Paper Players who both want Stars and / or Stripes, and Addicted to CAS where they want Christmas:

A simple card, stamped and watercoloured. The stars are done with a shimmery dark gold watercolour paint (but the photo doesn't pick up the shimmer). It matches the dark gold of the card base. The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed in clear embossing powder - but I think my copper ink pad has dried out as I didn't get the depth of colour I wanted.

Hedgehog and Heart

Finally getting this posted for two Penny Black challenges:

Penny Black and More "Animals, Birds, or Butterflies"

Penny Black Saturday Challenge "Love is in the Air"

The adorable Penny Black hedgehog is stamped and painted on watercolour paper.  I bordered him with a heart wreath die cut, bordered the panel with the same red, added a sentiment, and popped it up on fun foam.

I think that's it for Valentine posts.  I'll be back to Christmas cards next time!

Stamps - Penny Black hedgehog, SU sentiment
Ink - Archival Jet Black, SU Real Red

Black, Gold, and Cream with Hedgehogs

A Christmas card for the Just Us Girls "Black, Gold, and Cream" Color Challenge:

How I made it:

- stamped the image and sentiment in black on watercolour paper (which I consider cream in colour as opposed to white)
- watercoloured the image (including the stars - my Gansai Tambi watercolour paints include a metallic gold)
- trimmed the panel and bordered it with thin strips of black cs on a gold shimmer card

I love those cute hedgehogs!

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black hedgehogs, Stampabilities sentiment
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - watercolour paper, gold shimmer and black cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Gansai Tambi watercolour paints

Friendly Creatures

Back to a Christmas card after non-Christmas ones for my last couple of posts!

I like to think of these two hedgehogs as friends who are making Christmas decorations together (though someone said that maybe they are siblings quarreling over who gets to hang up the garland of stars!).

I stamped them on hot press watercolour paper, then painted with my Gansai Tambi watercolour paints.  The set includes metallic silver that I used for the scissors and metallic gold that I used for the stars - in real life they have a nice shimmer to them.

Then a thin border of black, some fun foam to pop it up, and a gold card base.

It's going over to:

Sparkles Christmas Challenges - "Feature a Creature"

Christmas Cards All Year Round - "Family and Friends"

Rudolph Days - April Anything Goes

So what do you think - happy co-operative hedgehog friends, or argumentative hedgehog siblings?

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - hot press watercolour paper, gold shimmer and black cs
