A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

CAS Christmas and a Winter Scene

For the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Clean and Simple" challenge and Simply Clean and Simple "Winter":

I used a leftover bit of a smooshed background, a small die, and a vertical sentiment.  There's lots of white space to keep it very CAS!

My second card is for Can You Handle the Pressure? with a theme of "Winter":

The embossing for the challenge is just from a narrow snowflake embossing folder.  The winter farm scene is stamped and coloured with coloured pencils.  It's bordered with black and popped up on fun foam on the red card base.

A Squirrel for Autumn and a Winter Landscape

It seems I'm often sneaking in under the wire for challenges!  Here I go again with two cards.

First up, for The Four Seasons Fall challenge, I was totally inspired by the sweet little squirrel in the bottom right image on their mood board (see below).

I stamped the squirrel on watercolour paper and then again on masking paper - fussy cut the mask and laid it over the squirrel on the watercolour paper. I then stamped the berry branches over the squirrel. Watercoloured, trimmed the panel, bordered with black, added to a cream card base, and went over the berries with Glossy Accents.

I'm sending it to my sister - she's moving and said one of the little things she'll miss (hence the sentiment) is the antics of the squirrels at her present house.

Next up, for Cardz 4 Guyz "A Winter Scene" and 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Winter Countryside":

I stamped the image, coloured the buildings and trees with alcohol markers, sponged the sky with pearlescent ice blue ink, sprinkled with chunky white embossing powder and heated it from underneath to create the falling snow, and popped the panel up on fun foam on a dark green card base.

Dry Embossed Snow, Heat Embossed Poinsettias

Two new Christmas cards today.  For Can You Handle the Pressure (anything goes with dry embossing;  I didn't use the twist of turkey / Thanksgiving as I'm in Canada and we've already had our Thanksgiving), and for Stamping Sensations "Christmas":

The image is stamped in black and coloured with coloured pencils, then trimmed and bordered with black cs, layered on a dry embossed panel, and added to a white card base.

My second card is for My Time to Craft Christmas "Poinsettias" and Color Hues "Red and Gold":

I sponged a bit of darker red ink around the edges of a piece of red cs, then stamped and heat embossed the Christmas poinsettias / holly image in gold.  I bordered in gold shimmer cs, added a sentiment from my leftovers box (die cut from a piece that had gilding flakes stuck to it), and added Glossy Accents to all the berries in the image.

Snowy Farm

Peace on Earth challenge has a mood board featuring pick-up trucks.  I don't have any pick-up truck stamps but was inspired by the farms in the backgrounds of the mood board images - especially the red barns.  So I got out a very old Northwoods stamp - one of the first Christmas stamps I ever bought - and created this card:

It's coloured with coloured pencils and then I went over all of the snowy parts with a Quickie glue pen and added glitter - love the sparkle in real life (the photo doesn't do it justice).  A simple sentiment and black border and it was done.

Here's the Peace on Earth mood board:

There's lots more inspiration for you over at Peace on Earth, and we'd love to have you link up a card either inspired by the mood board or an "anything Christmas" card.

Stamps - Northwoods farm scene, PB sentiment
Ink - Versafine Clair Onyx Black

Snowy Farm

Peace on Earth has a wonderful mood board for the new challenge - four great images of barns in the snow.  It inspired me to make this card:

It's an older stamp and I've had it for years but never inked it up.  The buildings and trees are coloured with alcohol markers and the sky is sponged with two shades of Distress Oxide ink.  I splattered with a white paint pen and added glitter to the snowy roofs, the ground, and the snow on the trees.  The image is bordered with dark green cs (though it looks black in the photo).

Here's the Peace on Earth mood board that inspired the card:

Please head over to Peace on Earth for more inspiration from the rest of the Design Team, and join us with your card inspired by the mood board or with an "anything Christmas" card.

I'm also going to enter it in Darnell's NBUS (never before used stuff) challenge as it's the first time that stamp got inked up.

Barn and Blue Jays

I didn't think I'd be able to do this week's Merry Monday challenge as I couldn't recall having any stamps of barns, and then suddenly remembered a really really old stamp I've had forever that has a barn in the background.

I stamped it and coloured it with coloured pencils, added a sentiment above it, trimmed it down and matted with red, and popped it up on fun foam on a dark green card base.

Then I took my Quickie glue pen and went over all the snowy bits and added glitter.  In real life, there is a lot of sparkle.  Here's a close-up that shows the barn and hopefully some of the sparkle:

I'm saving it for my sister who used to live on a farm.

Supplies:
Stamps - Northwoods image, Make an Impression sentiment
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - white, red, and dark green cs
