A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Christmas Tags and Shakespearian Words

I have a bunch of backgrounds and pieces of backgrounds sitting in a box so went through them for bits that would make good gift tags.  I also have a huge stash of snippets of ribbon.  I'm linking up to Sparkles Christmas Challenge "Add Ribbon or Twine" and the Snippets Challenge.

The two poinsettia ones are a TH stencil, sponged with Distress inks with clear embossing paste over the top. The star / holly one is stamped with a die cut Christmas star added to it. And the snowflake one is stencilled.

I die cut them with a stitched tag die, stamped a sentiment or added a die cut sentiment to the front, stamped "To / From" on the back, and added ribbon to the top.

My second project is for Word Power - have the sentiment be the focus of the card:

It's my friend Gerald's birthday - he is very involved in the theatrical world so this quote from Shakespeare is a perfect birthday wish for him. He's also Dutch in origin so orange is an important colour for him so I sponged around the sentiment (stamped in sepia ink and heat embossed) with various shades of light brown and orange, and mounted it on a red / orange dp layer.

Happy Easter and a CAS Sympathy

Easter is coming up and I had to get this card ready for the hostess of the brunch I'm going to.  And Sweet Stampin' and Shopping our Stash both want Easter cards.

Stamped, watercoloured, trimmed with a stitched rectangle. I thought of doing the chicks' little sweaters in various colours but my friend's favourite colour (like mine) is blue.

While I was away recently, another friend of mine's husband passed away.  So this is for her.  It will work well for Addicted to CAS "Bloom" as I've got a single bloom and for Word Power as the sentiment is the more predominant part of the card.

I put the flower in my MISTI and coloured it with Tombow markers. I used a grey ink for the sentiment as I thought black would look too strong.  I die cut the panel with a stitched square and popped it up on fun foam. I added a drop of liquid pearls to the centre of the flower.

A Rainy Day Threefer

Vancouver is having such a cold wet spring.  I'm yearning to work in my garden!  But no such luck today.  So I've got cards for some challenges instead.

First up for The Paper Players.  They want to see a craft image on the card.  And for Colorful Options.  They have a beautiful mood board in pastels (see at end of post) that I tried to depict on this card.

A simple stamped and watercoloured card using one of the wonderful Anita Jeram images from Colorado Craft Co.   I love these cute mice painting the flowers!

Next for the 52 Christmas Card Throwdown "Santa" and for My Time to Craft Christmas "Christmas Quote".

I made a circle mask out of masking paper to create the moon. Then I brayered on coated cs using two shades of blue and two of yellow, letting the lighter blue and the lighter yellow meet in the middle.

I stamped the sentiment with StazOn ink as I'd used coated cs. I die cut the Santa and sleigh with black cs, then bordered the panel with black.

And last but not least, for Inkspirational "Clean and Simple" and ABC Christmas Challenge "H is for Houses".

I had a scrap of dp that looks like a chilly winter night sky. I die cut the village out of white so that it looks like it's all covered in snow, making it look even chillier. Layered it on another piece of white cs and then on a white mini slimline card base.

Coloured Books

For the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge "Any Colouring Medium":

This is a quick CAS card - coloured with coloured pencils, then Gamsol to blend the colouring, a bit of shading below, and a great sentiment.

I set it on an angle because I needed to drop the books and coffee cup lower on the card - somehow when I had it level it all looked top heavy.

It's perfect to send to a friend of mine.  He's a retired librarian (like me) and he loves coffee and music, and reads tons of books (puts me to shame as I'm too busy making cards, gardening, volunteering with horses, etc. to get as much reading done as I'd like to).

Daredevil and Birds

Cutting it fine to get cards posted for two challenges today.

First up Cardz 4 Guyz wants "D is for .....".  I went with "D is for Daredevil" with this card:

I created the background by sprinkling green, blue, and turquoise Brushos over mixed media cs and spritzing with water. When dry, I stamped bits of text and mixed media stamps on it in grey.

I stamped and heat embossed the image and sentiment in black, trimmed the panel, bordered in dark grey, and added it to a cream cardbase.

Next up, for the Double D Challenge "Birds / Nests / Birdhouses", I have both birds and a birdhouse:

I stamped on watercolour paper, painted, bordered in red, used a dark green card base, and went over the branches with a Quickie glue pen and added some glitter.
