A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Blues and Bunny with a Stocking

Colorful Options has a colour palette to choose from and, needless to say, I chose the blues.

I sprayed the background with a few different blues and then die cut three hexagons out of it and stamped postage marks, etc. on them. I die cut the hexagons again out of scrap cs, popped the scrap ones back in the holes and layered the stamped ones on top of them.

I did some ink smooshing with various blue Distress inks and die cut the flowers and the sentiment out of that.

Here's the colour palette I chose from.  I tried to capture the various shades of blue from the left third of the colours..

And a Christmas card for Sparkles Christmas Challenge "Christmas Stocking" and Jingle Belles "Animal Antics".

One of the fabulous Anita Jeram stamps, simply watercoloured, bordered with black, and on an off-white card base.

Pup with Red and White Stocking

Inspired by the red and white in the mood board at Peace on Earth:

I stamped and coloured the pup, colouring his stocking in the red and white of the candy canes and other stripes of the mood board.  I added some orangey patches to the dog to make her resemble my dog (an orange roan English Cocker Spaniel).  In keeping with the red and white, I chose a piece of dp to border the image.

There's lots more inspiration from the other members of the Peace on Earth Design Team.  Here's the mood board should it inspire you.  If not, "anything Christmas goes".

And here's a photo of me and my sweet Tessa.  We occasionally go out to visit seniors' homes and this was taken on one of those visits.

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - white cs, dp
Size - A2

Puppy with a Stocking

The Jingle Belles Challenge is called "Stocking Holiday" and has a photo prompt that inspired me to make a card using the colours from the photo and using an image that has a stocking in it.

It's a simple stamped and watercoloured image, trimmed with a wonky stitched die, and popped up on fun foam on a red card base.

Here's the photo prompt so that you can see where I got my inspiration for the red of the card base and stocking, the aqua blue of the dog's bed, and the golden tan colour of the dog:

Be sure to read the sign the dog is holding - as someone who much prefers dogs over cats, it makes me smile!

Supplies:
Stamps - Hobby Art "A Christmas Tail"
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watecolour paper, red cs
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, MFT wonky stitched rectangle die, fun foam

Cozy Pup

For the Penny Black Saturday Challenge "Something New":

A new stamp set (new to me, not sure how new it is for Penny Black) full of the wonderful PB critters.  A simple card, stamped, watercoloured, trimmed, with a thin red inlaid border, and a bit of fun flock added to the hat.

The image reminds me of my dog, Tessa, curled up in her dog bed "guarding" one of my socks that she loves to steal.

Here's a photo of her:

Stocking Hung at the Fireplace

It's time for a mid-month reminder for the CAS Christmas challenge:

I went with a very old stamp that I've had almost since I first started stamping.

I coloured the stamped image with coloured pencils and then fussy cut it.

I created the idea of a fireplace by using some slightly dried up embossing paste through a brick stencil.  And for the mantelpiece I took a scrap of kraft cs and went over it with ink and woodgrain stencil.  I tore the ends off to give it the same partial look as the bricks.

I added a brad to the mantelpiece as something to "hang" the stocking from and put dimensionals under the stocking.  I die cut the panel with a stitched rectangle to match the stitching on the stocking and embellished with two red gemstones, one clear one, and Wink of Stella on the snowflake.

Here's a close-up:

You have until May 24 to link up your cards featuring our theme of "stocking".  For inspiration, check out the reminder cards made by our Design Team and this month's fabulous Guest Designer, Helen (Helen's Craft Haven).

Tessa and her Stocking

Can you believe it is already May, the fifth month of the year!!!?  2019 is passing by much too quickly for me!

That means it's time for the new CAS Christmas Challenge.

Here's my card:

The image is stamped and watercoloured with my Inktense watercolour pencils.  I die cut the frame twice and glued them together for more dimension, and popped it all up on fun foam on a red card base.

This card is a perfect representation of my sweet English Cocker Spaniel, Tessa.  First of all, she is kind of that colour, but more importantly, she loves to carry socks around in her mouth (usually stealing them from the laundry basket) and she loves to have a good chew on her bone.  The photo on the left is her (before going to the groomer) with a sock, the one on the right (after seeing the groomer) with her bone between her paws.

But back to the business at hand - we'd love to have you join us with some Christmas stockings at CAS Christmas.  There is lots more inspiration from the rest of the Design Team and this month's fabulous Guest Designer, Helen (Helen's Craft Haven).  You have until May 24th to link up your card - please be sure it is clean and simple and uses this month's theme.
