A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Dear You

The CASology challenge has a cue card that just says "dear".  I thought of the sentiment I used on this card:

I used a scrap of background from my box of backgrounds. It was done on a gelli plate with pale blue acrylic paint. I put it and the wildflower stamp in the MISTI and inked the wildflower in Distress Seedless Preserves, spritzed very lightly and stamped, then moved the cs over and stamped off very gently for a very pale second impression. Added the sentiment and some sequins and popped it up on fun foam.

A very quick CAS card today for a couple of challenges.

I added drops of blue metallic ink to coated cs, spritzed with water and let it spread around, and then patted off the excess with paper towel.

Once it was dry, I stamped and heat embossed in black, trimmed the panel, and popped it up on fun foam on a linen card base.

Blue, Green, and Yellow Garden Collage

A bright summery card is perfect for today in Vancouver as it feels like summer - nonstop sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures.

I'm trying to decide if I want to get rid of some of my older stamps so I try making a card with them and if I like the results, I keep the stamp.  Since I like the collage look of this and the fact it has text in the background, I'm keeping it.

I stamped the image twice, watercoloured one whole image, and just the butterfly in the second one - then fussy cut the butterfly and popped it up on the first image with foam tape. Bordered in black and popped the whole panel up on fun foam.

Blue and yellow are my favourite colours so they predominate, but there is some green so I'm linking it up with the Color Throwdown Challenge "Yellow, Green, Blue, and White".

Supplies:
Stamps - SU Garden Collage, unknown sentiment
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - watercolour paper, black and white cs

Flowers with Lattice

A card using a lattice die that has been in my stash for years and never used.

I smooshed some Oxide inks onto coated cs, let it dry, and then die cut the Alexandra Renke flower dies.

I die cut a piece of lattice and set it behind a stitched aperture die cut, then layered the flowers over it and added a sentiment banner.

The whole panel is popped up on foam tape to give more of a sense of dimension to the lattice.

A Rainbow of Spaniels and Santa Hats

It's time to remind you about April's CAS Christmas challenge, "Rainbow".  I've done a rainbow of spaniels wearing Santa hats.

English Cocker spaniels come in a huge range of colours - 23 different colours or colour mixes in fact!!  I've had three different ones - a blue roan, a liver roan, and my present sweet Tessa who is orange roan.  So I coloured the dogs on my card in a variety of colours.

And for the rainbow challenge, I did their hats and little gifts in the traditional rainbow of colours.  And then added those colours below them to ground them.

A simple sentiment and a black border, a bit of fun foam to add dimension, and the card was done.

Please come and join us with your Christmas card using "rainbow" as the theme - you have until April 24th to link up.  There is more inspiration from the Design Team over at CAS Christmas.

I'm also linking up with:

Day of the Month Card Club's challenge "Find a Rainbow Day".

Penny Black Saturday Challenge "Cute".

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - white and black cs

Paper Pieced Poinsettia

I don't do very much paper piecing - but should do as it's a great way to use up scraps of dp!  I did this card using two different dps:

I stamped the poinsettia image three times - once on white cs, once on the burgundy starry dp, and once on the mottled dp.  Then I fussy cut and paper pieced the dp over the white stamped image.  I layered it over a dry embossed background, popped that up on fun foam, and die cut the "joy" sentiment (once out of the mottled dp and once out of white cs and glued them together to give the dp more substance.  For embellishment, I added white pearls to the centre of the poinsettia.

Off it goes to:

CAS Mix Up - "Paper Piecing" - I have paper piecing, stamping, die cutting, and dry embossing.

Pixie's Crafty Workshop "Snippets Challenge" - I used up scraps of dp.

Supplies:
Stamps - Stamp Oasis poinsettia
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - white cs, scraps of two decorative papers
Size - A2
Accessories - Penny Black "joy" die, Crafts Too embossing folder, fun foam

Pink Wildflowers and a Kraft-Coloured Bee

After my recent spring flowers, I'm going with a simple wildflower today.

I created a stenciled background in yellow and then stamped the images with a brown ink close to kraft. I then coloured them lightly with Distress markers scribbled on an acrylic block and a wet brush.

I've got the four colours for the current Color Throwdown challenge - the wildflowers are pink, the leaves are green, the bee is kraft-coloured, and the honeycomb and card base are yellow.

Supplies:

Ink - Ranger Potting Soil, Distress Wild Honey
Paper - PTI Rustic and White cs

Daffodils

Another spring flower card from me today:

Pretty obvious how I made it - stamped, watercoloured, trimmed, mounted on the card base, and bordered in yellow with one of the very thin frames from SSS.  My first time using one of them and they are pretty tricky to get glued down nice and square where you want them - so make sure you use a glue with a bit of wiggle room!  I used the Gina K Connect Glue.

Going to link up with :

The Paper Players "Springtime Flowers"

NBUS Challenge "Never Before Used Schtuff" - my stamps and the thin frame are NBUS

Supplies:
Stamps - Penny Black
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watercolour paper, cream and yellow cs
Size - A2
Accessories - watercolour paints, SSS thin frames rectangles

The First Spring Flowers

My garden was awash with clumps of snowflakes all through March.  They truly are one of the joys of spring.  So they are my choice for The Paper Players "Springtime Flowers" challenge.

Stamped, watercoloured, bordered with a bit of dp that picks up the colours in the image, and popped up on fun foam.

A Subtle Rainbow

It's time for the April CAS Christmas challenge and this month's host, Trina, wants to see rainbows on our cards.   I created a rainbow of Christmas lights on a tree.

After stamping the tree, I coloured all the lights with coloured pencils, trying to create a rainbow of them with red ones all around the most outer edges, then a curve of orange ones, etc. going down to the violet ones closest to the trunk.

Here's a close-up that hopefully shows the rainbow of colours better:

I added drops of Crystal Glaze to each light.  I thought "joy" was a fitting sentiment as I find the rainbow of colours very joyful.

Check out the inspiration on how to use rainbows on Christmas cards at CAS Christmas where there are wonderful cards by the Design Team and this month's fabulous Guest Designer, Izzy (Izzy Scrap blog).  Please join us with your clean and simple Christmas cards featuring a rainbow of some sort.

Stamps - Penny Black "Twinkling" tree, Stampendous sentiment
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
