A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Tags on Cards

Krafty Chicks are challenging us to use "Tags".

I love making tags but don't really use them as tags so for me, they are a layer to go on a card.

First of all, the tag:

I used the splash watercolour technique with various blue Distress inks to colour the tag.  Then I stamped the little snowflake flurry across the top and heat embossed in white; and stamped and heat embossed the sentiment.
I die cut the tree twice and glued them together.  I patted Versamark all over it and heat embossed with Frantage Shabby Green embossing enamel.

I patted green and blue Distress inks on my craft mat, spritzed with water, and dragged a piece of seam binding through it.

Secondly, how I created the card:

I stupidly scored my card base on the wrong line of my ScorBuddy, but didn't want to waste it so decided to keep the back of the card wider than the front.  To tie the card base to the tag, I ran a strip of double-sided tape down the part that stuck out wider than the front and covered it with the Frantage Shabby Green embossing enamel and heated it.  Then added the tag to the front, popping it up on fun foam.

Here's another card using one of the tags I made.  This one is a bit over the top for me, but I did it for a SCS challenge to use stickers - never got around to posting it on my blog so thought I'd add it here.

For the tag, I layered with Distress Oxide inks, various stencils, some 3D sparkly paint (on the holly stencil), text stamping, and finally a die cut "merry" (cut once in black and once in gold with the black barely peeking out from behind the gold) and gold star stickers. I added a bit of gold ribbon to the top.

On the white cardbase, I ran a long gold star border sticker, adding some of the tiny stars from the interior of the border sticker in random spots.

Which one do you prefer?  The first one in my more CAS style or the more ornate second one?

  2. Two Gorgeous tag cards, Susan. I can not choose one over the other. I LOVE both very different designs. Your 1st card is gorgeous with the glittery 3D paint on your beautiful tree and side border. Your 2nd tag really pops with all the gorgeous brighter colors, stamping and gold accents. Two beauties, my friend. TFS Hugs..Nancy

  4. I love both tags and they make really pretty cards! I love the snowy blue tag with the silver sparkles! And the brightness of the second card with the gold stars gives a very different, but equally lovely, feel!

  5. What a great save on your first card! And it only added to how beautiful it is. I also love the seam binding colored to match. The second card makes me happy with all the bright colors. It's fun to step out of your comfort zone and do other things, so I can't pick a favorite since they both appeal to me. I've also scored in the wrong place but never thought to go ahead and use it. Thanks for sharing this.

  6. Such unique and fabulous cards, both of them. The tags look amazing. Mixed media heaven on both of them for me x. Love how you saved the first one with the frantage down the side and the shabby green looks so pretty, as does your tag/card. Glorious colours on the second one and such a stunner x.

  7. Both of these caught my eye, Susan! I could not honestly say which I liked better. The tree which is my favorite die looks fabulous with texture and I'm mesmerized by the mixed media work on the second one as well as the bold color. LOve these!

  8. Both of these are wonderful! I love the ink blending (watercolor and the oxides). Tags on cards are just as fab as tags by themselves! ;-) Thanks for playing along with us at Krafty Chicks challenge, hope to see you again.

  9. Two beautiful tag cards Susan. I love how your oopsie in scoring turned into a beautiful card base for your tag. Adding the frantage down the small strip really adds a special detail to your card. The tag is amazing. LOVE the colours and that gorgeous die-cut tree in silver glitter.

Your second tag card is also amazing. Beautiful collage of elements that work perfectly together!! I LOVE both the tags and really can't choose a favourite. They are both my favourites! xx
