Cling Wrapped Bird

Time to remind you that you only have until January 24th to link up your card for this month's CAS Mix Up challenge!

For my reminder card, I used Brushos along with cling wrap.

I took a piece of coated cs, sprinkled it with brown and red Brushos, spritzed with water, and then scrunched cling wrap up on top of it.  I left it to dry for a couple of hours.  It came out much paler than I'd intended but there was some nice marbling from the cling wrap.

I cut the bird / snowflake die twice - once from white cs and once from the Brushos piece.  I found a piece of burgundy cs that I liked with the Brushos colours, glued the white bird / snowflake outline to it, and then inlaid the bird's body from the Brushos piece.

The sentiment is stamped and heat embossed, and the panel trimmed and popped up on fun foam for dimension.  I added a gemstone for the bird's eye.

Purple Birthday

I have a friend who loves purple so when I saw the new Less is More challenge, I decided it was the perfect prompt to get her birthday card made.

Here's my card:

I did a smooshed background with Oxide inks on mixed media cs, then trimmed it down with a stitched rectangle die.

I die cut the flower twice - once out of white cs and once out of purple, and also die cut the sentiment out of the purple.  I glued the white outline flower down and then used just the internal bits from the purple die cut and inlaid them into the white.

It's popped up on a bit of fun foam for dimension.

Because I used water to dilute the Oxide inks for the smooshing, I'm also adding it to CAS Watercolour where this month's theme is birthday.

Masculine Christmas Thank You Card

I needed to make a thank you card for my Dad for his Christmas gift and I was inspired by three challenges:

SCS CAS challenge "Chilled Thanks".
SCS Technique Lovers challenge "Everything Old is New Again: Black and White".
Christmas Cards All Year Round challenge "A Holiday Thank You".

Here's my card:

I used black and white shimmer cs. I die cut the sentiment and the sloped house and trees circle die out of my top layer of white, added it to a black cardbase, and die cut some tiny snowflakes out of the scrap of white and glued them on.

Belated Birthday Poppies

This weekend's SCS Inspiration Challenge is to be inspired by an image on the Design Sponge website.

I chose this image of Icelandic poppies:

I needed to make a birthday card that I know won't reach the recipient in time so it's a belated birthday card:

I used my old PTI Botanical Silhouettes set. I put the stems stamp in my MISTI, inked it with Peeled Paint and spritzed lightly with water. I stamped onto watercolour paper. Then I put the flower heads stamp into the MISTI, coloured the flowers with various Distress markers, spritzed and stamped, then repeated for extra shading until I was happy with the result.

I pressed some Peeled Paint on an acrylic palette and watercoloured around the base of the stems, then splattered a bit of it.

I sponged a bit of Brushed Corduroy around the edges. Then stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in Peeled Painted on a scrap of the watercolour paper and trimmed it into a banner. Added it to the top, popped the panel up on fun foam, and embellished with a couple of gemstones.

Embossing for Merry Monday

Merry Monday is one of my favourite Christmas challenges.  This week it is:

Using cream shimmer cs, I dry embossed the Cuttlebug folder that has lots of ornaments on it. Then I stamped and heat embossed one of the Penny Black ornaments and cut it out with a matching die.  I also heat embossed the sentiment.

I find the shimmer cs very hard to photograph so forgive the shadows.

A New Holly Die

All of my favourite Christmas card challenges are starting up again to help inspire me to make Christmas cards all through the year.

Today I've made one for the Jingle Belles challenge "Look What Santa Brought Me" (use something new).  I got a new "Holly Triptych" die that I think I'll be using a lot as it's perfect to overlay all sorts of different backgrounds.  For this card, I made a background with alcohol inks on Yupo.

I created the background by dropping alcohol inks onto Yupo and moving them around a bit with blending solution. Then I die cut the holly triptych and trimmed that panel down with a stitched square die. The sentiment is heat embossed. The panel is popped up on fun foam on a red cardbase and I added matching red gemstones to the holly berries.

I need to make Christmas cards throughout the year for my fundraiser at the end of November, so forgive me for posting so many of them out of season!
