A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Poinsettias and Sequins

Time for another CAS Christmas Challenge!  This month our host is Linda and she's chosen Poinsettia as the theme.

I stamped and heat embossed the poinsettias with red glitter embossing powder, and then did the same in gold embossing powder with the sentiment - I debated whether to put it below or in the right angle of the poinsettias but went below to balance the tall side of the card with the shorter top side.

When I die cut it with a stitched rectangle, it looked really unbalanced to me - I truly prefer symmetrical layouts on my cards so having an image up in a corner is a challenge for me.  So I added some gold sequins in the lower white space (as well as in the centre of each poinsettia) and that made me happier!

Looking forward to seeing your CAS cards featuring poinsettias!  For more inspiration, check out the cards by this month's fabulous Guest Designer, Sandra (Sandma's Handmade Cards) and the rest of the Design Team over at CAS Christmas!

  1. Your poinsettias are so pretty in the glitter embossing powders Susan - I bet they really shine IRL! I often spend more time on trying to decide where each item will go than in picking out what images to use - it just has to please your eye! xx

  4. I love this fresh and wonderful design of your poinsettia card, Susan! Definitely your eyes go straight to the flowers in the top left corner, then to the heat-embossed sentiment down below, and finally follow to the gold sequins (coming full circle). The sparkle of the poinsettia must be prettier IRL!

  5. Beautiful Susan, I liked both options for lay outs. The poinsettia looks pretty cascading down to the sentiment but I also like the additions of the sequins :)

  7. A beautiful card Susan and I really like the addition of the gold sequins. Thank you once again for asking me to be your GD for this month, I've really enjoyed it. I'm fairly new to CAS cards and I'm finding your challenge is doing a great job of pushing me out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing as I'm trying lots of new ideas and having fun with new techniques x
