A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Reindeer in the Forest

Christmas Cards All Year Round wants to see reindeer on August's cards.  Here's mine:

To create the background, I placed the tree stencil on top of mixed media paper, sprinkled with turquoise brushos, spritzed with water, removed the stencil, and blotted with paper towel.

I tore white cs to make the snowbank, die cut the reindeer twice (once out of white cs, once out of dark brown) and glued them together for substance, heat embossed a white sentiment, and added glitter to the line of the snowbank and to ground the reindeer.

Christmas Cards All Year Round posted a photo of a wonderful reindeer cake for inspiration.  The decoration on it is so amazing that I have to share it:

Supplies:
Stamps - Rubber Soul sentiment
Ink - ColorBox white
Paper - mixed media, white and dark brown cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Dee's Distinctively reindeer die, TCW tree die, turquoise brushos, white embossing powder, mixed glitter

Mood Board Dog

For the new Peace on Earth challenge, I was inspired by the upper left image of the dog on the mood board (see it below).  It instantly reminded me of a stamp I've had for a few years but haven't inked up recently.

I stamped it, then watercoloured using my Inktense watercolour pencils.  I trimmed the panel and bordered it with a snowy dp.  I added glitter to the snowflakes and Fun Flock to the hat's brim and pompom.

Please come and join us at Peace on Earth Challenge.  We're an "anything Christmas goes" challenge if the mood board doesn't inspire you in some way.

I did another version of the same image, using different colours, different dp, and trimming the image panel smaller.

Supplies:
Stamps - Crafter's Companion Christmas with Barkley Let It Snow
Ink - Versafine Clair Nocturne
Paper - watercolour paper, snowy dp, cream cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Inktense watercolour pencils on the first one, watercolour paints on the second one, glitter, Fun Flock

Soft Colours Candle

The Peace on Earth challenge has a great mood board if you're looking for some inspiration to use non-traditional colours.  Here's the card I made:

I stamped the image on watercolour paper and coloured it with pearlescent watercolour paints trying to capture the blue and muted colour of the leaves and ornaments.  I splattered with some watered down gold paint.  I cut a thin frame out of my panel and discarded it, and then cut another out of a pale gold cs and inserted it into the gap.  I popped it up on fun foam on a cream card base.

Here's the mood board that inspired me (see bottom left image):

There's lots more inspiration from the rest of our Design Team over at Peace on Earth.  Please come and join us - you can either be inspired by the mood board or make an "anything Christmas" card.

Supplies:
Stamps - Jofy candle, unknown sentiment
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - watercolour paper, pale gold shimmer cs, cream cs
Size - A2
Accessories - Yasutomo pearlescent paints, SSS thin frame die, fun foam

Summer on the Beach

We've been having lovely summer weather in Vancouver (even too hot at times, but lots of sunshine).  So a beach-themed card seemed perfect for the Four Seasons Challenge's last Summer challenge.

I used a stamp I haven't inked up before and created a simple watercoloured scene, framed in black.

The Four Seasons Challenge has a lovely mood board for inspiration.  I saw the image on the top right (see the mood board below) to inspire my beach scene.  I used the colours of the drink for my umbrella and deck chairs.

I'm also linking up with Darnell's NBUS (never before used stuff) challenge.

Supplies:
Stamps - Inkylicious beach scene, Lawn Fawn sentiment
Ink - Versafine Onyx Black
Paper - watercolour paper, black and cream cs
Size - 5.25" square
Accessories - watercolour paints, Spellbinders square dies

White Pine on Kraft

This month at CAS Christmas, Trina is asking us to use "Pine" as our theme.  Here's my card:

I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment and pine branch in white on kraft cs.  Then did the same with the pine cone on a scrap of kraft cs and fussy cut it.  I glued its stem to the branch and popped the rest of it up a bit with foam tape.  Trimmed the panel and added it to a kraft card base, bordering it with a white thin rectangle die cut frame.

Please come and join us at CAS Christmas.  There's lots more inspiration from the Design Team and this month's Guest Designers, Elizabeth (Paper Sweetness) and Lucie (Lucie G Cards).

Supplies:
Stamps - SU Ornamental Pine
Ink - ColorBox white
Paper - kraft and white cs
Size - A2
Accessories - white embossing powder, SSS thin rectangle frame die, foam tape
