A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Perched Bird

The December challenge at Penny Black is Winter or Christmas.  It inspired me to use a stamp I haven't yet inked up:

Using my MISTI, I started by adding colour with my Memento dew drop ink pads to different parts of the image, stamping and repeating as necessary.  Once I had a foundation of colour, I used Distress inks on my palette with water and a paint brush to fill in with more colour.

Once dry, I restamped with Versamark and heat embossed.  This gave the outlines of the image a bit more definition.  I added a bit of a wash around the edges.

I stamped my sentiment on a little tag and attached it with baker's twine, then popped the panel up on fun foam.

I added Aleene's Glitter Snow Paste to the bits of snow on the log and leaves, and Glossy Accents to the berries.

This was my first time using this stamp and I love it - will have to make a couple more cards with it.

I'm also taking it over to Christmas Cards All Year Round's "Anything Goes" challenge and the Christmas Card Throwdown "Pick a Challenge from 2012 or 2013" challenge (I picked Theme Challenge #3 - Christmas Animals or Birds).

Supplies:

Ink - various Memento Dew Drops, various Distress inks, SU Real Red
Paper - white cs, mixed media cs
Size - A2
Accessories - SU tag, baker's twine, Aleene's Glitter Snow Paste, Glossy Accents, fun foam

  2. You did an outstanding job with this stamp, Susan! It appears that you watercolored the image but saw you used markers. What a beautiful effect! The coloring is fabulous and your soft wash is so well done. I've yet to succeed with the soft wash. Beautiful!
