A blog devoted to the cards I make in my tiny upstairs space. When my sister stays there, she calls it an "artist's garret". I'm not an artist, but am an enthusiastic cardmaker - hence the title "Cardmaker's Garret".

Winter into Spring in the Garden

Over at CAS Watercolour we have a theme for March that is dear to my heart.

Gardening is one of my main activities - I have a vegetable garden, perennial borders, and lots of plants in pots on my patio.  The earliest sign of spring in my garden is the snowdrop.  They had started blooming a couple of weeks ago and then last week, we had an unexpected (and unusual for Vancouver) snowstorm and my snowdrops ended up under 8" of snow!  So I was inspired to make this card as it truly is representative of my garden right now!

I stamped the image with Archival ink, watercoloured with my Gansai Tambi paints, added a sentiment (to me, the snowdrops truly do say "Hello Spring"), trimmed the panel, popped it up on fun foam, and added a bit of glitter to the snowy areas.

Here's a close-up:

Please come and join us at CAS Watercolour for our theme of "Garden".  Your card should feature something more than just a flower - the emphasis is on "garden" not just "flowers".  Take a look at the inspiration from our Design Team and this month's Guest Designer, Nonni (Nonni's Handmade Cards), at CAS Watercolour.  You have until March 24th to link up your card.  Looking forward to seeing your card!

Stamps - Penny Black Pretty Perch, Rosie's Roadshow sentiment
Ink - Archival Jet Black
Paper - watercolour paper, white cs

  1. Absolutely beautiful image and such a fabulous card. Love the water coloured background too, so delicate and it looks like puffy clouds...maybe snow clouds x Great colouring and yes Snowdrops say Spring to me too. Snow in Scotland today too, so your card is very representative of my garden too x

  2. Gorgeous watercoloured early Spring image of your snowdrops, pot and robin, Susan. We have been having rain mixed with snow all morning. At least the rain keeps the snow from sticking. We are so ready for Spring and so are many of our plants. I hope your snow is about gone and your weather improves. TFS your really stunning card my friend. Your card deserves a permanent frame:-) Hugs...

  3. Beautiful image and beautifully watercoloured Susan. I love that the snowdrops are hanging their heads a bit. Snow at the end of February is ridiculous for us, isn't it! Usually by this time of year, people are out and above in T-shirts. :)

I do love the bird sitting on the pot. I think I need to buy this stamp! :) We always enable each other, don't we?? It's part of the fun! xx

  4. Susan, you did an outstanding job painting this! I've still had no luck with water coloring so I always enjoy seeing yours. Love the soft wash in the background too.

  9. I thought of your card when I saw a wren perched on a pot on the deck this afternoon. He wasn't as pretty as your robin and no snow. I love the snowdrops and berries that he is enjoying!
